Being an entrepreneur is an adventure. It’s a way of life. In fact, being an entrepreneur is your life! That is why Marijke Groenenboom-Dröge has always said that she would write a book one day about the enterprising adventures of the Groenenboom Family. Her story gives insight into the things an entrepreneur should or shouldn’t do to be successful. In the book, Marijke talks about the passion for enterprising, experiences, setbacks and anecdotes. At the beginning of 2011, the time was right to carry out her plan. Daughter Kristel Groenenboom had taken over the baton from her father Kees over a year earlier and the company was about to celebrate its 25th anniversary. During the reception marking this silver anniversary, the book was presented for the first time. The book is published in Dutch and English and was given the appropriate title “Perseverance” (“De aanhouder wint!”). It tells the story of Kees Groenenboom’s life in business: a farmer’s son who became a successful businessman in the transport and metal industry. It also describes the influence of entrepreneurship on one’s relationships and family. “The entire family must support you. You aren’t doing it on your own.” In addition, the book challenges the widespread idea that the wife of an entrepreneur is simply a lucky woman. Things don’t just fall into your lap. Entrepreneurship is not all sunshine and roses, but a little perseverance can go a long way. It does not matter what your background is, or how old you are, if you want to be successful. Perseverance and ambition will ensure that you will attain your goals. As an entrepreneur, you must keep picking up your wheelbarrow and carrying on, over and over again. The ability to do so must run in your blood. Entrepreneurship must be your passion. If it is, go for it all the way. Then you, too, will find that a little “Perseverance” will go a long way!
