Renovation of Silos, Tank Containers and Flatracks
Professional refurbishment for long-term reuse
At Groenenboom Container Projects & Coatings, we carry out renovation projects for silos, tank containers and flatracks. With extensive experience in metal preservation, in-house blasting and coating facilities, and skilled technicians, we restore used equipment to a condition that is safe, functional and ready for extended service life.
Silo refurbishment
For clients in the construction and dry mortar industry – such as Beamix – we perform full silo renovations. After repairing damaged components, the silo is blasted and coated with a fresh two-component paint system. We also apply new lettering, ensuring the unit is ready for on-site use and visually represents the brand properly.

Tank container renovation
We specialise in the technical cleaning and recoating of various types of tank containers. Depending on the material – whether carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminium – we use the appropriate blasting medium: fossil grit for sensitive metals and steel grit for robust steel surfaces. The interior is blasted to surface preparation grade SA 2.5 (also known as internal grit blasting), removing old coatings, scale and corrosion thoroughly.
After blasting, the exterior of both tank and frame is coated with a full Hempel coating system, selected based on the intended use and environmental conditions. This ensures each tank container is fully protected, compliant and ready for extended service.

Flatrack refurbishment
For shipping companies, we restore flatracks that have seen heavy use. Damaged frames are repaired, old coatings are removed by blasting, and the structure is recoated with a protective system. When necessary, wooden floors are replaced, and updated lettering is applied. This process ensures flatracks are safe, compliant and ready for redeployment in the fleet.

Preservation of Crane Parts, Structural Components and Booms
In addition to containers and silos, we also preserve individual steel components, such as crane parts, booms, and structural elements. Upon arrival, each item is carefully inspected and, if necessary, mechanically or manually repaired. We then proceed with blasting to remove contaminants, corrosion, and old coatings, achieving the required surface preparation grade according to ISO 8501-1, based on the intended application and client specifications.
After blasting, a tailored coating system is applied, selected for the environmental conditions the component will face – whether industrial, maritime, or offshore. If required, we also provide lettering, marking or color coding as part of the finishing process.
Thanks to our combination of technical expertise, certified spray painters, and in-house AMPP coating inspection, we deliver durable preservation solutions that meet the highest industry standards.
